Integrate Déjà Vu Surround Upmixing Into Your Product

If your hardware or platform delivers audio to listeners, Déjà Vu gives you something to offer them that your competitors don't have: stereo-to-5.1 upmixing that actually sounds right and crystal clear.

That distinction matters more than it might appear. The upmix technology currently built into most consumer and professional audio hardware, matrix-steering processors, ambience generators, and perceptual enhancement algorithms, does an acceptable job with film content and spoken word.

On music, it falls apart. The image collapses, artifacts appear on transients, and the result sounds processed in ways that a careful listener immediately notices.

Déjà Vu uses a patented linear algorithm that derives discrete 5.1 channels from the spatial information already embedded in any stereo recording. No matrix steering. No synthesized reverb. No artifacts. The original production characteristics are preserved, and the 5.1 output sounds like the music was mixed that way from the start.

That's a licensable differentiator - and it's available as an OEM object for integration into your product.

Available as SDK and OEM Object

Déjà Vu is available in two primary forms for OEM partners:

OEM Object A pre-compiled binary optimized for integration into hardware platforms and processing appliances. Minimal integration overhead, suitable for embedded and real-time applications.

SDK / API Integration For software platforms, streaming services, and connected device ecosystems. Integration documentation and technical support are provided as part of the licensing agreement.

Both forms deliver the same patented algorithm. The choice of integration path depends on your platform architecture and use case.

Use Cases

Car Audio Systems

The infrastructure for multi-channel audio is already in most modern vehicles: front left, front right, rear left, rear right, center, and subwoofer channels, driven by separate amplifier channels. What's been missing is a source-agnostic way to feed that system with actual 5.1 content from the stereo streams that make up the majority of what people listen to in their cars; streaming services, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth audio from a phone.

Déjà Vu sits between the stereo source and the amplification stage, converting any stereo input to discrete 5.1 in real time. The driver gets a true surround experience from their existing playlist without any changes to how they listen. The manufacturer delivers a feature that head unit and aftermarket competitors haven't matched on music content.

AV Receivers and Surround Processors

Consumer AVR manufacturers have included upmix modes for years. Most of them are vestigial features that audiophiles disable immediately because of what they do to music. Déjà Vu is the version of that feature that gets left on, because it preserves the mix rather than distorting it.

For AVR manufacturers targeting the high-fidelity segment, Déjà Vu is a meaningful differentiator in a category where the hardware specifications between competing products have largely converged.

Streaming Platforms and Music Services

The vast majority of music catalogs exist only in stereo. Streaming platforms that want to deliver 5.1 content face two options: wait for a 5.1 mix to be created by the label (rare, slow, expensive), or convert the stereo master they already have.

Déjà Vu makes the second option viable at scale. Stereo master files can be processed through the algorithm to produce 5.1 streams that hold up to critical listening, something existing platform-level upmix technologies haven't been able to claim for music content.

Broadcast Hardware and Playout Systems

Radio stations, television broadcasters, and playout server manufacturers face a persistent problem: the music content they broadcast exists in stereo, but their infrastructure is built for 5.1 delivery. The available upmix technology in broadcast processors does unacceptable things to music.

Déjà Vu is already integrated into the Telos Alliance, Z/IPStream product line. We are open to additional broadcast hardware licensing relationships.

Gaming Peripherals and Spatial Audio Platforms

Gaming manufacturers and spatial audio platforms are increasingly competing on the quality of their positional audio processing. For music playback, a major use case for gaming headsets even outside of gameplay. The upmix experience is often an afterthought.

Déjà Vu provides a music-grade upmix that can be offered as a distinct listening mode, separate from game audio processing, for users who want a surround experience from their music library.

Museums and Immersive Installations

Custom installation and integration partners building multi-speaker audio systems for museums, visitor centers, themed entertainment, and immersive experiences need a source-agnostic way to fill a multi-channel speaker rig from stereo content.

Déjà Vu provides real-time upmixing that can be configured for non-standard speaker layouts beyond the standard 5.1 configuration.
